Sweden’s Archipelago Raid is one of those events that manages to be deadly serious, where it comes to wanting to win, and huge fun at the same time. On top of that, the course is – as the name implies – in an Archipelgo, which means fantastic scenery; all in all something we’d love to be competing in.
So far the winds haven’t been very cooperative and boats have had to be towed to finishing points, there have also been a few problems. Rudder troubles were reported from the Italian team Black or White, but it proved to be nothing they couldn’t fix. Team FG Porsche suffered more severe damage, colliding with a rock in the dark, the daggerboard pierced the hull with the predictable result of flooding. Disaster followed disaster as they narrowly avoided sinking, while being towed, and they realised upon reaching Arsläjan that the damage was too serious to repair without professional help. The boat has been patched up, and is on its way to the mainland for professional repair. Pic from Thierry Martinez and more here.
