Chicago’s inner city children have few options to consider for constructive and educational activities during their summer vacation. A shrinking pool of summer jobs does not brighten the situation especially in the current economy. The alternative is to attend camps or summer school classes but as the school systems’ resources dwindle, these programs further strain an already shrinking budget. This is not unique to the City of Chicago but to other major cities across our Nation.
