Yippe Kai Yea, Motherfucker!

Yippee Kai Yay is launching tomorrow. She’s an open Class 40 hull number 87 designed by Jim Antrim and built by Columbia Yachts. She is a lean mean racing machine designed for single handed Transatlantic sailing but intended in my plans for a 6 woman crew or double handed with my husband.  I chose this boat specifically to race the Transpac, PacCup. and PV. We have all of the “above deck” technology to sail short handed. That means double purchased halyards, triple reef main with lazy jacks, socked spins, and all with the performance of a boat twice it’s size. Bang for the buck.

Ullman Sails and rigging, Antal bat cars, ATN socks, Harken and Lewmar, GMT carbon mast, NKE electronics, Imron paint, all of these companies have been a part of my team. The goal is to hit some boat speeds of 25-30, which I think we can do with the right swells. We named the boat with two things in mind, Our sister ships are mostly European with a few East Coasters, so it’s West Coast western, and we like Bruce Willis’s Die Hard movies and what he says when he blows away the bad guys. We don’t need to add the MF to the name (we do – ed.) I think we need to earn that. With 1600 lbs of water ballast, if you see me coming in on port, don’t mess with me – Crash tacking is not an option. – Sue Senescu.
