The Trans Gascogne (Across Biscay for non Frog speakers) race is the Minis’ testing ground for the big one – the Transat – and this is one ocean race where suffering the delights of freeze dried food and other deprivations are not much of a problem for most competitos. Many of the boats are taking the test very seriously and have stacked up with provisions and other gear to simulate the weight of the boat and supplied on a transat. Leg two started this weekend from the Spanish port of Ribadeo, but the first surprise came in leg 1, when 650 rookie Thomas Normand took first place ahead of some very experienced sailors! Gotta give respect to these guys, not sure we’d want to cross Biscay in a 650, never mind the Atlantic. Photo from event organisers and more here.
