Fire It

Fire It Up

Meanwhile, the Melges 24 Gold Cup is looking like one of the few positives for the US Melges 24 fleet.  This year’s GC will be raced on Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan in late August – one of the prettiest venues in the Midwest during the best time of the year. You might remember a story we ran about GTYC’s clubhouse burning to the ground last year; here’s an update from M24 Midwest District Governor Mike Dow along with some pics:

In April of 2008, the Grand Traverse Yacht Club caught fire and was a total loss, and 2008 was a strange year of sailing in Traverse City – almost like it didn’t happen. Now we are back after thousands of volunteer hours settling the claim, sorting out just what could be built and actually having some consensus, member-wide, to get it all done and reopened in just over a year. 2009 has been a great year for sailing at the GTYC and its membership with the Interlake Nationals just completed last week. Soon it will get even better.

August 22 & 23 is the Melges 24 Gold Cup. As good as the club looks, it is still all about the sailing at GTYC. WTF, Hoodlum, Rock & Roll, Slurred not Spoken, Funtech, Major Woody, Tramp Stamp, Flying Toaster, Zig Zag, Eager Beaver are Just a few of the boats that will be on the starting line for the Melges 24 Class National Point Series event. 25+ boats are expected so don’t miss the opportunity for great sailing on West Grand Traverse Bay. Bring the whole family! NOR posted at http://www.usmelges24.com/
