Kings of the Road
The Moore 24 Roadmaster series came to the Columbia Gorge this past weekend with 14 boats showing up for the legendary Gorge conditions. We joined in on the CGOD event at Cascade locks for the first three races on Saturday, joining the 5 boat Melges fleet and fireball and Laser classes. They banged off long 3 buoy races in record time in flat water top of the 2, bottom of the three winds. The boats shooting for top position became obvious with #72 ‘Morphine,’ #127 ‘Bruzer’ and #154 ‘Tortuga’ battling it out for the top spots. Then for our 4th race they sent us off on a 22 mile downwind run to Hood River Oregon. The race started off in decent breeze but became somewhat light and shifty at Wind Mountain and places changed right and left. But leave it to the gorge to lull you into submission…we rounded the point at Dog mountain and it was off to the races. #26 stayed to the Washington side, while the fleet jibed out to the Oregon Shore, which turned out to be the best choice.
