You might not have heard of it in the USA, but SA isn’t just about the USA. We’re all about an international sailing regatta and the S 40, currently competing at the Rolex Ilhabela Sailing Week, is the hottest thing on the South American racing scene right now. Conceived by a group of Argentinean and Brazilian owners during a dinner at the 2008 Rolex Ilhabela Sailing Week, it made its first appearance at the Circuito Atlantico Sur Rolex Cup in January. From the sketches and ideas these owners created, designer Javier Soto Acebal drew the lines for this bitchin’ looking one-design. Eduardo Souza Ramos was one of the visualizes and is racing here with the winning skipper of 2008/09 Volvo Ocean Race, Torben Grael, as tactician. If that isn’t enough, Ilhabela Week is producing challenging conditions for all the record entry. Pic from Carlo Borlenghi and more here.
