Magic Trick
So here is the new/old Pyewacket, racing for the first time in the Hoag Cup out here in SoCal. They won against a pretty small fleet, but click on the picture and take a look at the funny little line pulling the tack of the kite forward. Looks like a neat way to magically make the spinnaker pole longer without the pesky need of actually having a longer pole or the associated rating hit.
The word is that they used this on Saturday, but on Sunday a few guys from other boats had a little talk with them and they raced with the kite on the pole for Sunday’s race – and guess what? Worst result of the regatta, 5th. But nobody protested and they still won the regatta. Magic Kingdom, indeed!
