Long Day

The overall win in the Zwitserleven Round Texel race – the world’s biggest catamaran regatta – went to the British F18 team Wilson/Lynch in their new F18 Shockwave. In spite of the lack of wind, the start was extremely exciting because of mountainous surf and a current that kept pushing the boats north when they were trying to get south of the line in time for the start. In fact, 10 minutes before the start, so many cats were still at the wrong side of the starting line that the race committee decided to move it and about 350 boats managed to cross the line in time. Despite a lack of wind, which kept even the top placed sailors on the water for 7 hours plus, there was plenty of action and Claire Mason was on hand to capture it.
