Moving Party
The wheels on the big school bus of justice in Lake County, California are falling off, the effects of the corrupt manslaughter prosecution of Bismarck Dinius finally reverberating throughout the community in advance of the Friday hearing that will likely see his case dismissed. Today, Lake County DA’s office staff told us that Assistant DA John Langan has been replaced by Lake County DA himself, Jon Hopkins, for the remainder of the case. You might remember that Langan recently asked for a continuance in the case to evaluate new evidence that Deputy Sheriff Russell Perdock was drinking before he rammed into a becalmed sailboat, destroying the boat and killing one of its passengers.
The move signals major desperation in a case that is slowly exposing the level of corruption in Lake County politics and law enforcement – you just don’t switch lawyers at the eleventh hour unless something forces you to. Maybe Langan refused to go along with the cover-up any longer?
In any case, if you live anywhere near Lake County and you’d like to show your support for a sailor being raped by a good-old boys system of cops, lawyers, and judges – show up this Friday morning at 8 A.M. on the courthouse steps at 255 North Forbes St. in Lakeport for a good ole’ fashioned protest with lots of press, lots of signs, and quite a few folks to join you. In the meantime, send DA Hopkins an email and ask him why he is taking over the case, and if he intends to allow an independent investigation of the Sheriff’s department when this is all over. Keep posted on the thread.
