Millions Strong

Millions Strong

While lesser websites spend a lot of time logging all sorts of data on their readers’ browsing habits in an effort to convince companies to waste money advertising with them, we don’t really bother.  Sailing Anarchy is so much more popular than the rest of the sailing internet that we don’t need to.  Occasionally though, we look at some of the stats to remind ourselves how enormous this community is, and what an incredible resource the SA forums are.

On April 24th, 2007, the SA forums logged their one millionth post.  Amazingly, according to the lo-fi forum counters, sometime last week the main Sailing Anarchy forum reached a million posts on its own.  Even more insanely, sometime this weekend the overall forum will log its two millionth post.  That’s right – you crazy bastards have posted some two million individual comments on our forums over the past 8 years.  With an average post length of around 140 words, that means there are somewhere around two hundred and eighty million words on SA about racing, cruising, drinking, drugs, death, life, relationships, illnesses, boats, cars, trains, planes and just about every other subject known to man.  And that doesn’t include the old boards or any of the deleted posts (miss ya, solo).

While it took six years to get to the first million, it’s taken only two to get the second million, and our community continues to grow in every way.  So thanks to all of you for making it so awesome – those who post, those who lurk, and occasional guests.  For those of you who’ve never registered, you might as well do it now – when you use SA to communicate with the rest of the Anarchists, almost anything can happen.
