Legend of the Finn
The Finn class is full of legends, but some are more legendary than others. Take Didier Poissant of France. Back in 1996 he returned to Finn sailing at the age of 73, and 13 years later is still a regular at the Finn World Masters championship. He is currently competing in the 2009 edition, taking place on the Lac de Carcans-Houtin near Maubuisson in south-western France.
At 86 he must surely be the oldest competitor ever to take part in a dinghy world championship.
He said, "I race here for the pleasure to be sailing on the water with my friends from France and overseas, and I do what I like. When I want to go racing, my boat is always ready to go in my garage. The Finn is freedom: no crew, no harbour, no constraint."
