Bruised
A bruised and battered Roaring Forty finished the Ilhabela to Charleston leg of the Portimao Global Ocean Race, with sticky tape holding down a chunk of laminate. Looking at the side of the Open 40 it was apparent just how close a shave solo sailor, Michel Kleinjans, had; a few more inches to starboard and he would have been lucky to have lived to tell the tale of a collision with a container ship. Now he has another race on his hands to get his boat stripped out and repaired before the restart in two weeks time. It would be a daunting task for a pro shore team, but these guys don’t have such luxuries! Also happy to be finishing today was the British duo on Team Mowgli. More finish pix from Sam Hall are here.
