The Cheetah 30 is one our all time favorites, and so we thought we’d go to Bob Ames, the designer of the 30 for his favorite.
My favorite boat would have to be the International 14. Its not an easy call as its has been a while since I designed or sailed one – and I know they have changed a bit from my day, but most of my best memories come from sailing this boat. One of the attractions of the I14 is the sailors themselves. Like minded people in a boat for adrenaline junkies. If you throw in a juiced-up boat with a unique venue, I’d have to give a nod to the Ultimate 30. Good times that didn’t last long enough. My favorite design, is the Vanguard Vector. I think the TurboTart-ed (more power-less weight) prototype that Steve Clark built for a possible Olympic entry would probably have sealed the deal for me, but I never sailed it. As a designer, truthfully, I’d have to say the boat I’m working on now has got to be my future favorite since it has been done on my time, to my requirements, for me.
