Precious Cargo

As the Volvo fleet heads across the North Atlantic in the teeth of a gale, we honor the anniversary of Hans Horrevoets’ death, three years ago yesterday.  Hans was swept off ABN AMRO 2 on this same stretch of ocean, and his spirit as a leader, a teacher, and a friend lives on in so many of the sailors he influenced.  Hoorevoets name lives on as well – through a memorial race at his home club, a trophy for young talent at Holland’s largest yachting event and now also an award for rookie of the race at the current VOR.  Add your thoughts to the thread on the anniversary of Hans’s death, and thanks to ‘lucas’ for letting us know about the triad of memorials to a great man.
