All Good

The Glyn Charles Memorial Race is about fun, fundraising and remembering Glyn Charles, one of Britain’s best young sailors, who tragically lost his life in the 1998 Sydney Hobart race. The fundraising bit is in aid of the John Merrick’s Sailing Trust. John was a great friend of Glyn and a fellow member of the British Olympic team until he died in a car accident in 1997.

A memorial event, but sad it is not. The race – one of the largest held in Chichester Harbour -is about having fun and celebrating life, whilst competing for a vast haul of prizes. It is open to all monohull dinghies and small racing keelboats with a PY below 1432 and this year the overall winners, in an entry of 140 boats, were local boys Peters and Dicken Maclean sailing a 29er.
