Close, Again

We thought the finish of the Transat BPE was incredibly close, with Gildas Morvan beating Erwan Tabarly by less than 5 minutes, but the closest was to come. Armel Tripon and Franck Le Gal fought it out, neck and neck, for seventh and eight places almost to the very end, until Tripon found a bit more pressure and crossed exactly 2 ½ minutes ahead.

Why don’t the organizers promote these Figaro events in English? That sort of close competition, in production boats that ordinary mortals can afford, is the stuff that could get sailors around the world thinking “I could do that!” Pic from Marcel Mochet AFP and more here.
