Record Run

West Australian Paralympics gold medalist turned Solo Sailor Jamie Dunross OAM has claimed a new world record for the longest distance ever sailed by a quadriplegic when he sailed his yacht into Albany on Western Australia’s treacherous south coast last Thursday. Jamie set out from Fremantle the previous Saturday and logged 440 miles and been at sea for over 4 days 18 hours 49 minutes and 18 seconds, breaking the previous record he set sailing from Fremantle to Geraldton of 223 nautical miles in 46 hours.

Speaking by Satphone off Windy Harbour on Tuesday, Jamie said that Monday night had been the most terrifying time of his life when, in 30knts  winds and with 6m waves breaking over his yacht, he had to remain on deck to hand steer for two hours when his electric steering equipment failed in the huge seastate.
