Nine Lives

The cat lives! Roy Disney has resurrected his old SC 70 (pictured below as Skylark) for another transpac go. We caught up with Roy and Robbie Haines for a quick Q&A.

SA: So the old Pyewacket (SC 70) becomes the new Pyewacket. Tell us the
reasoning behind this one.

RD: A bunch of reasons, I guess…for one, between Roy Pat and me, we’ve
done every Transpac since 1975, and we hated the thought of breaking the
string…for another, the boat just happened to be available (the first idea
was to charter her, but as we thought about it, the purchase seemed more
practical)…and there was, for sure, a pretty strong sentimental attachment
to the boat, she was Bill Lee’s first all carbon SC-70, and she sure was a
successful boat while we owned her…four Transpacs, one TransAtlantic, and
God knows how many time to Mexico, plus wins in almost all the big West
Coast regattas…Big Boats, Cal Cup, and so on.
