Mr. and Mrs. Kite

Alexandre Caizergues of France and Melissa Gil of the USA are the 2009 Kitespeed World Champions. Neither had what you could call hard fought victories because, after two races on the first day of the competition, the wind never returned to the Plage Napoleon based event at Port St Louis, France.

Local Alexandre Caizergues defended his title of the past two years, but the stunner was American Melissa Gil’s victory over defending world champion Charlotte Consorti, of France and South African world record holder Sjoukje Bredenkamp. Gil is a complete rookie, having never ever tried out speed equipment until a month ago. She won the first leg of the competition, whilst Charlotte shot a bullet in the second leg, but due to the decreasing winds Melissa, with 30.03 knots, had the better speed and thus secured the overall victory.
