We know we’ve already had a Sailor Chick of the Week this week, but we couldn’t keep ourselves from honoring the surprisingly sexy and awesomely distinguished attorney Maureen Mahoney for her victory yesterday. MoMo may only be a newbie sailor with a few hours at sea, but her oral arguments before the New York Court of Appeals last month may have done more for the health of the America’s Cup than any woman in the history of the Cup. Mahoney’s presentation and talent in Albany made short work of the pathetic arguments of Alinghi and its geriatric and incompetent counsel Barry Ostrager – as evidenced by the Court’s unanimous dismissal of every one of the Swiss arguments. Mahoney’s firm’s work is far from over – despite claims that Bertarelli will be contacting Ellison quickly to finalize details of the Deed of Gift match, we (and insider Josecito) expect Alinghi to take the mess back to court quickly as Bertarelli stalls for time and searches for any reason to avoid meeting Russell Coutts on the water.
Alinghi can’t win in court – the big question is will they continue to avoid meeting BMW/Oracle on the water?
