The thoughts of most of the Volvo crews were on food, when they sailed into Rio de Janeiro practically down to the last snack. In fact, Green Dragon was so short of both food and fuel that it had to get refueled before maneuvering to the pontoon, in Marina di Gloria, and Ian Walker tucked into a proffered steak sandwich before he was off the boat. It was a different story for Telefonica Blue, which had husbanded supplies rather better and there’s not much doubt what José Calafat’s mind was on as he came ashore.
