The Peter Huston as Martin Luther King thread is throwing off some real gems – here, Anarchist and RC boat racer Earl Boebert offers his own insightful analysis of the modern way the game is played. Well done.
At the risk of “exposure to the tender mercies and lapidary prose of the SA community, I’d like to add to this thread a historian’s perspective on Part 2 of the RRS. I characterize the three sections as right of way, limitations on right of way, and the dreaded Section C, dogfighting at marks and obstructions. A wag once said that American football embodied the three worst aspects of our society: violence, legalism, and committee meetings. If you substitute “aggression on and off the water” for “violence” you get a pretty good description of the dogfighter ethos.
