While we can’t stand conventions or anything that smells like them, there is one that has potential – the sometimes fascinating, sometimes debilitatingly boring Chesapeake Sailing Yacht Symposium. It’s this Friday, and features the current state of wind tunnels and tank testing, flying sail shapes analysis, an analysis of the Navy 44 Mark 2, measurement stuff…ok, we’re already falling sleep. There are a couple of things that look good – a cocktail party is always welcome, and Steve Killing, the Anarchist and designer of the C-Class Catamaran champion Alpha (and foiling Rocker that was first debuted on these pages) should have a good talk about their design philosophies that ended with these two wildly different boats inside the same small box.
It’s a relatively cheap (for the symposium world) way to rub elbows with and ask questions of some of the brightest minds in sailing – so long as you drink lots and lots of coffee. We’ll see if Steve has a problem letting the Anarchists see some of his materials after the symposium is over. If you’re in the area and love the tech side of the sport, have a look.
