A quick look at the entry list for the Miami Grand Prix shows just how far this once-great event has fallen. The surprisingly strong Melges 32 Class makes up nearly half the 44-boat entry list – and the remainder is a pitiful mix of four IRC A boats, seven IRC B boats, and twelve Farr 40s. One more Premiere Racing event that is anything but. Is it just a casualty of the economy, or have Premiere’s exclusionary attitude and skyrocketing event costs been catching up to them for some time? Considering the downward participation trend of Miami Race Week over the past five years, it might just be both.
