The maxi-trimaran Banque Populaire is on standby in the Spanish port of Cadiz for an attempt on Franck Cammas Discovery Route record. The delivery voyage from Brittany to Spain, which took just under 72 hours, was the first time the crew had been on the boat overnight and skipper Pascal Bidégorry was full of praise for the way his team had knitted together. He was also more than happy with the giant trimaran’s performance on its first ocean passage.

The voyage was a final test of what has been done, in sea trials, to optimize the boat for record attempts and certain limits were imposed. Nevertheless, the boat was able to sustain speeds of over 40 knots for considerable periods, leaving Bidégorry and crew very confident about its record breaking ability. “We never had a moment’s anxiety,” said Bidégorry “even when making more than 40 knots there was never a time when we felt in danger.” Cathy McLean/BYMNews.
