19 Minutes

Before the start of the Adelaide to Port Lincoln race, Steve Kemp, navigator on Secret Men’s Business 3 said "Our routing gets us there at 6:20, just 19 minutes outside Grant Wharington’s Skandia Wild Thing record of 13 hours 52 minutes and 17 seconds set in 2000, so somehow or other we need to find another 20 minutes." Kemp added "We broke the Sydney-Hobart record with the fastest time ever for boats under 50ft and this morning our weather forecaster, Roger Badham, had the winds maxing out at 20 knots in the middle of the gulf tonight, breeze going east and easing overnight, so it’s going to be close". It was close, but not as close as Kemp had hoped; 19 minutes adrift turned out to be 29. Pic from Steve Hall/BYM news and plenty more here.
