Big D Cup
From humble beginnings, a pile of Detroit Anarchists have created something very cool – it’s great to hear something positive from Michigan for a change…
Just two seasons ago the Detroit Cup was little more than random small-talk on a windless day of postponements. When we first delivered the idea to the Bayview Yacht Club membership, some thought we were crazy, others had no idea what we were actually proposing to host, and some ‘got it.’ BYC is full of veteran organizers, umpires, judges, and support personnel, and the membership prides itself on hosting top-notch events…needless to say, our first attempt was a huge success, with great racing, awesome spectator turnout, and a memorable time for all.
Last year’s inaugural Detroit Cup saw representation from the USA, Canada, Italy, Argentina, Russia, and New Zealand, and this year’s event will be even bigger, with an additional day of racing added to the regatta, which runs June 18-21. We’re proud to announce the D-Cup’s new affiliation with the World Match Race Tour Qualifying Series – this year’s winner will be crowned the 2009 Detroit Cup Champion and also gain a berth into the World Match Racing Tour: Brazil Sailing Cup scheduled for September 22-27, 2009.
