Mark Ivey reports from on board Stu Hebb’s Aerodyne 38 Thin Ice in the Pineapple Cup:
We have had a phenomenal…I mean PHENOMENAL 24 hours of sailing – the best night I’ve ever had, ripping along with the beautiful kite up, and the jib top, in 38 to 43 knots of wind. Out of control, just insane. Had a great morning run and got all the way to 30 miles from the finish, and snapped our rudder off. We are now sitting bobbing up and down, cleaning the boat. All the sails are down below and we have just a big giant sea anchor a/k/a a giant ripped spinnaker trailing behind the boat while we wait for the Jamaican Coast Guard. No, this is not a joke, it actually really is happening and it sucks! Ugh….We’re probably two or three hours from getting a tow here, we think they’ve deployed a finish line vessel to help us, we’ll check in with you later.
