Still Anyone’s Podium
There’s a kind of anti-climax feeling around where it comes to the Vendee Globe. Mich has won and whether Armel will overtake Roland, in his wounded boat, is no longer an issue, since Bilou has wisely decided to abandon. The rest seem to have fallen into a routine, even if that routine does involve endless mainsail repairs in Dee’s case, and even if the ever entertaining and informative Sam Davies has been reduced to writing about emergency repairs to a kettle! However, the battle for the podium is still on! A bummer for Roland Jourdain as he officially pulled the plug on his Vendee.
Sam Davies is officially in third place, but her nearest rival, Marc Guillemot, has many redress hours in hand, after both diverted to help Yann Elies. The Safran skipper looks set to go west round the Azores high, whilst Sam will go east. The high is a long way west of its normal position, meaning that upwind sailing will be involved if the shortest route is taken, but it could easily move, dramatically changing the situation. The weather patterns could also allow Brian Thompson to take a short cut, so the interest is still on! Pic from the lovely Sam and more VG pix here.
