Looks like there won’t be more than 4 boats in the upcoming Qingdao In Port VOR race. A quick head count says Delta Lloyd definitely won’t be there; as it is being shipped to Rio, Telefonica Black, currently sailing to Singapore, seems likely to also head for Rio. That leaves Ericsson 3 – currently on a barge to a shipyard – as the only possible boat that ‘might’ make the In-Port event in addition to Puma, Ericsson 4, Telefonica Blue and Green Dragon. What a bad look that will be, yet it is symbolic of the participation shortcomings for the VOR. The breakages and drop outs, especially from this past brutal leg won’t exactly help get more players, nor will a four boat fleet in the next race. This topic surely must be priority No. 1 for the VOR, no?
On a nice PR note, according to BYM News correspondent, Andrés Areitio Bereincua, the arrival of Guo Chuan – who was born in Qingdao – on board Green Dragon ensured that he and his team had a very warm welcome, even if the temperature was only around 5º C.
