Frozen Over

The temperatures in Key West may have been chilly, but the controversy heated up quickly when OTW Anarchy faced off against a Premiere Racing that doesn’t like us, and didn’t want us there.  The lack of communication between us and Premiere led to some nasty exchanges, and culminated with a clusterf*&k during the IRC2 start of Race 9, when the J/44 Gold Digger was pinballed around the spectator fleet after being caught late to the start and blocked by a Premiere boat.  Gold Digger filed for redress, claiming interference from a spectator boat and our OTW coverage boat, and was awarded almost two minutes by the jury – enough to give them first place in the race.  After receiving a nice e-mail from a Premiere staffer acknowledging that we didn’t create the problem, and cooling off in the wake of nearly non-stop attacks from the usual peanut gallery, I realized that I could have done a lot to prevent this mess – and I hereby apologize to Jim Bishop and the crew of Gold Digger for effecting their racing, and more importantly, to William Titus and Robin Team and their crews on Act One and Teamwork for being a contributing part – however small – of their positions changing at the end of a hard-fought week.
