A New Way South

Big Pimpin’

A New Way South

And now a word from our sponsors…

Organizers of The Border Run Race have formed a strategic partnership with the San Diego Yacht Club which will provide event support and host the awards party following the new race from Newport Beach to San Diego.  Here’s the deal: Beginning in Newport Beach on April 24th, 2009 and departing one hour prior to the Newport – Ensenada Race, The Border Run will provide a fun course that sails into Mexican waters around Coronado del Norte and then through a finish line just off Pt. Loma (93nm). This unique course makes the event an International regatta while avoiding the need to go through customs and landing where the Leukemia and Yachting Cup regatta begins less than one week later. A shorter course of 66 miles will also be offered.

"It seems that there are quite a few sailors out there who, for one reason or another, are looking for a good long-distance race without a lot of the complications, expense and worry the Ensenada Race carries. We’re presenting different course options that we hope will suit a given team’s skill-set, boat limitations and/or personal preference" says Public Relations Director Josh Richards.

Seatow, one of the many sponsors of the race,  will follow the fleet and offer free towing during the race if sailors encounter any problems along the way. Elliott/Pattison Sailmakers, The Pirate’s Lair, The Log Newspaper and other sponsors are helping to make this a fun event with a final destination that includes family friendly activities like the Tour of the Aircraft Carrier Midway and the world famous Sea World just minutes from San Diego Harbor on scenic Mission Bay.

All boats 18 feet and larger are invited. Classes include PHRF, One Design, ULDBs, IRC, Cruising class, and Multihull. To find out more about The Border Run and get the early sign-up discount go to www.TheBorderRun.org or call 800-366-8584.
