Bitchin’, But Is It Fast?
So the brand new Santa Cruz 37’s are getting their asses kicked in IRC 2 at KWRW. Yikes. One thought says the new boat should win or at least be in the hunt right away, the other says maybe an 8,600 lb. Santa Cruz 37 isn’t going to be the weapon of choice for an IRC buoy regatta, especially when going against bigger, heavier boats like the Mills designed King 40. And in truth, the Mills designed boats are dominating, and nobody is drawing better IRC boats these days than Mills…We’ll bet though, that the 37 lights ’em up off the wind…
Your Ed had the chance to sail on hull #5 last Friday here in Dago, courtesy of Jeff Brown from JK3 Yachts, the new San Diego/Newport Beach Santa Cruz dealer. First off, the boat looks great. I dug the sheer, the cabin house, the shape. Plus it had some very cool features – like the sprit/bowsprit combo pictured above and check out the lifting rudder, accessible from a deck hatch. And the on deck shroud terminals look pretty slick.
