Shockin’ A

Shockin’ A

The A-Cat World Championship in Belmont, Australia starts in just three days, and with almost 100 boats on the line, it should be an exciting one to watch.  The biggest shock of the Pre-Worlds hasn’t been Jimmy Spithill’s blazing speed, nor the fact that not a single US boat showed up despite strong international representation at last year’s US-based event;  Nope – the electrifying action so far has been a result of an afternoon squall which pumped a few hundred thousand volts into the water nearby the boat park where Aussie Dave Brewer was working on his boat.  The lightning strike knocked Brewer on his ass, sending to him the hospital – yet he was released the next morning and was back on the water, taking fourth in a race!  We’ll have more from New South Wales later in the week from this uber-cool singlehanded cat event – hopefully something a little less intense.
