Sunday was the Winter Solstice for our hemisphere – and by now, Northern sailors have completely lost their minds. Some have even gone so crazy that they strap themselves to a few 2 x 4s with ice skate runners, shove off on the ice, and reach insane speeds just inches from the sharp, hard surface.
OK – so maybe a modern iceboat is a little more complicated than that – but check out this video of International DN Class Commodore John ‘Hoop’ Harper – the “fastest dentist in the Midwest” – as he blows away his competition on Sand Lake, Michigan. Hoop is using a similar set-up to our own Bora the Explorer – these little Sanyo cameras with vacuum suction mountings that are giving all of us a view of things that we’ve never seen before – and incidentally, Bora edited this video.
