Our Anarchists keep us up to date with the latest developments in bizarre technologies on the oceans, and this week we’ve got some real gems for you. First up is the Harbor Wing, an unmanned rigid-winged catamaran that cruises around on no power as it performs military and homeland security monitoring. Next is Atmocean’s wave-driven upwelling technology, a system of floating barrels connected to tubes that forces deep and cold water to the surface. The idea may combat global warming and help depower tropical storms. Finally, the old adage that “duct tape can fix anything” is once again proven correct. A Swiss ski resort is using something called the Ice Protector to protect their ski runs. It is essentially a giant sheet of duct tape laid over a glacier that slows down the melt by up to 80% over uncovered snow. Will we someday see the North and South poles covered with shiny gray stuff?
