The Tacoma Yacht Club’s annual 30-mile Winter Vashon Race ended Saturday afternoon with more than 60 of the 70+ starters in the main race declared OCS, due to an attempt by the race committee to delay the start of the race just a few minutes to allow a passing ferry to clear the starting area…a change that was somewhat discretely signaled from the deck of the clubhouse bar with small class flags and single beeps from an air horn.

No AP flag was flown, no over-early flags or radio calls of sail numbers, general recalls or other attempts to recall the many boats that missed their start was made. Its all part of a 4-race winter series, so the series results will be interesting to follow as the season progresses as well as most boats ended up with a 2nd or 3rd place for the day in their classes, which will cause many headaches at trophy time.

But other than that, it was actually a pleasant day for a sail around the Island in a PNW/wear your fleece kind of way.

The amazing results are posted here. While the cruising class and the multis escaped the confusion, a class action redress has been filed for the rest of the fleet. – Anarchist Steve.
