Man of the Cloth
Dimension Polyant is one of our most loyal supporters, and last week, Moose McClintock gave us the low down on how globalism and the economic crisis figures into the world or sailcloth manufacturing. Check it:
“Dimension Polyant is in the process of building a sail fabrication plant in Sri Lanka. As the worlds largest sailcloth manufacturer, we have seen and felt the same economic downturn as the rest of the industry, and also a change in the trends of sail buying both domestically and worldwide. The biggest change in the sail buying trend is the huge influx of completed woven polyester sails (and more and more laminate sails) coming from the Far East. These sails are built with woven polyester sourced from all over the world, from all the sailcloth suppliers as well as Asian efforts. Since we weave more polyester than anyone else (and since we own 50 looms to do it), we were seeing a critical amount of volume going offshore that we were starting to lose, affecting our business directly.
