Never Too Old
Nico Budel is a man for all seasons, a true pioneering spirit who is racing around the world in the Portimão Global Ocean Race for all the right reasons and none of the wrong ones. It’s this purity of his intentions that sets Nico apart from the multitude of other circumnavigators and would-be circumnavigators, and it is the reason Nico is such a compelling personality. At 69, he is the oldest competitor in the race, but age is of no concern to this grandfather of five. “Age is just a number.” he says echoing a well used phrase, but what sets Nico apart from all the others who blithely throw that old adage around is that Nico actually believes it. He set off on a solo circumnavigation not to prove his point, but to make his point without words. Read more of his story. This pic courtesy Brian Hancock. More here.
