On the face of it, Francis Joyon is certain to take the Discovery Route record, having got until Friday evening to get there and being just about 1000 miles from the finish.
The only snag is that the finish could be “iffy, with weak winds on the approach to San Salvador, the good news is that SA’s resident meteorology expert, Born2Sail, says “Colville can kiss the record goodbye. The only question is how big will the winds be that the skipper is willing to challenge, and will IDEC hold together the last 48 hours of the trip’. I say he will have the pedal to metal and because he and IDEC are one, the boat will do just fine.” Word.
