Booze Cruise
The Melges 24 fleet is far too competitive to have cracked open the
hard liquor during a long postponement of Day 3 of the North Americans
today on the Chesapeake, but we had no such hesitation. Infused by vodka,
we zoomed across the bay to watch the TP-52s round marks, paced Sjambok
under kite, and still made it back for the start of two races in 5-8
knots and an assload of current.
A buzz certainly helps one enjoy slow racing, but even sober, these
crowded roundings and bunched-up starts were a blast to watch. Terry
Hutchinson did his thing again, and despite what
he said in his interview with us, he is all but untouchable now,
subject to the redress issue below. As second place helmsman Gabrio
Zandona of Joe Fly said in a vast understatement. "Terry does not
make many mistakes." Full
results are here.
