Great American

Rich
Wilson hasn’t got much of a chance of winning the Vendée
Globe, but he’s got our respect because he’s doing it and
there isn’t another American that can say that. His boat, now
called Great American is 9 years old – ex-VM Matériaux,
ex-Solidaires – but he’s been upgrading it for the last
two years, including fitting a canting keel, and he’s no stranger
to survival conditions in the Southern Ocean. So, there’s a good
chance he’ll get round and, if he does, he’s sure to be
the first American to finish since Bruce Schwab did with Ocean Planet.
