OTW
The One To
Watch
There are tens of thousands of you stuck behind your computer screens
this week, and we’re pleased to announce that we’ve got a great little
diversion planned for you from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay this
week. Yup – another installment of On-The-Water Anarchy is coming
at you from the red hot Melges
24 North American Championship here in Annapolis, thanks to the
great support of three solid companies, all of them long time readers
of Sailing Anarchy. You’ll learn more about them later in the week,
and we know you’ll show your appreciation to our reliable friend John
at Latis
Yachting Solutions – licensed and insured to pack, transport,
and rig everything from the Melges 20 to a Santa Cruz 70, Our good friend
George at Coral
Reef Sailing Apparel, specializing in the best brand name customized
apparel for your team or next big event, and the innovative Tom Weaver
at Eastport
Yachts, creator of the sexy Eastport
32 motor yacht that we’ll be reporting from – perfect for
weekend getaways, Race Committee work with style, or just a great time
on a fast, economical power cruiser.
In case you missed it, this event begins the run-up to the 2009 Worlds
in the same place, and this “dry run” of 48 boats includes
some of the most talented sailors on the planet. The roster reads like
a “who’s who” of top one-design and Olympic racing: Hutchinson,
Brun, Ivey, Ullman, Kotoun, Zandona, Bruni, Porter, Hunt, Favini, McNay,
Larson, Terhune, Kolius, Reeser, Mendelblatt – the list goes on
and on, but the racing will be decided after just 4 days – and
we’re bringing you every start, every rounding, every finish, and every
party…even the ones we get thrown out of.
Look for a detailed preview on these pages tomorrow, then be sure to
tune in to On-The-Water
Anarchy from Wednesday to Saturday to see just which rock star tames
the autumn gales and tricky currents in Annapolis. I can tell you one
thing: We wouldn’t have violated our rule against heading North from
our home in Charleston unless we were sure it was going to be some seriously
good racing. It’s the hottest thing there is in North America right
now, and it better be, because I’m freezing my ass off.
