Lost: 50 Miles
A quick update from Rosebud/ Team DYT in the Middle Sea Race. Photo by Kurt Arigo and there are more
– The latest: The last 12 hours aboard Rosebud / Team DYT can
be summed up in a single word, FRUSTRATING. We approached the Western
tip of Sicily on a run in about 8 knots of wind with Moneypenny to leeward
and ahead by slightly more than two miles and Alegre astern by about
½ a mile. We are now leaving the Western tip of Sicily and both
boats are more than 50 miles ahead.
How did this happen? We were on the same line as MP as we rounded the
tip of Sicily but they got there minutes before the door of wind closed.
Alegre chose the inside route and got wind drainage off the land and
were able to catch MP. This door was also closed to us 30 minutes after
Alegre made their successful approach to the shore.
