We know the industry is in bad shape, with some predicting even worse
times ahead. We’ve run a bunch of stories about economic problems throughout
the industry, and just today we learned that Goetz Custom Boats laid
off a few workers (marketing and clerical only) – but no doubt symptomatic
of the state of the business – weak.

You know when an entire multi-million PR campaign, from Grow Boating
called "Discover Boating", gets the ax, that things are not
good. And when 85% of that multi-million dollar ad budget is going directly
back to boat manufacturers (where it originally came from) in order
to support dealers, things are dire. PR campaigns can be effective,
but not if the entire industry (mostly power boats in this case) that
it suppors is bleeding to death. Read
