Are we reading this right? Does this new ISAF anti-doping rule
propose to give them the right to test any sailor, recreational and
otherwise? What the fuck are they thinking? Maybe they should test themselves
because somebody sure as hell is high here. They want to dope test Joe
Six Pack? For what – steroids? Weed? Crystal meth? Who cares? Just what
the sport needs – another bullshit regulation that does nothing but
add unneeded governance, is an invasion of privacy, and could create
ludicrous patrolling and testing for the majority sailors in this sport
– people who do it for fun. Perhaps it won’t actually be applied, but
the potential is there for something absolutely unnecessary.
Some National Anti-Doping Organizations may elect to test and apply anti-doping rules to recreational-level or masters competitors who are not current or potential national caliber competitors. National
Anti-Doping Organizations are not required, however, to apply all aspects
of the Code to such persons. Specific national rules may be established
for Doping Control for non-international-level or national level competitors
without being in conflict with the Code. Thus, a country could elect
to test recreational-level competitors. Read the whole
thing.
