It was an incredible start and an incredible finish in the 2008 Barcolana.
1912 boats crossed the start line and, unlike last year, conditions were
benign; too benign, because lack of wind forced the organisers to shorten
the course. That didn’t cut short the excitement for the race between
Alfa Romeo and Maxi Jena wasn’t decided until the last 500 metres.
Alfa owner Neville Crichton, who has won this event 3 times, said "We
were very close and there and the results could have been very different;
Mitja did an excellent race and could have won".
