First Cruz

Here it is, the first Santa Cruz 37 out for its maiden
in Newport, RI. So far it looks good and early reports have it
fairly ripping upwind. It appears to have plenty
of rig
(don’t forget it weighs less than 9,000 lbs.) and though daylight
was fading, but we got a glimpse of it going downwind as well. Equally impressive is that they have 15 orders for them, and
though it’s nothing like an SA award, the folks at the Newport Boat show
have just awarded us Best New Sailboat at the show. Add a little color
(stripes, graphics, contrasting non skid, whatever) and we’ll be it really
looks sharp. We’re really happy for designer Tim
and the folks behind the resurrection of the Santa
brand. We’ll have an Innerview with new principal Tom Slade next
