Joyon will launch maxi-trimaran IDEC on the attack of another record;
that of the Discovery Route, between Cadiz and San Salvador (Bahamas).
Joyon took the record, in 2004, with the old IDEC, but a certain Thomas
Coville bettered it in his ORMA 60, with a time of 10 days, 11 hours and
The red arrow – as IDEC was nicknamed during the round the world voyage
– will have to make an average speed of more than 15.5 knots to improve
on Thomas Coville’s record. The stand by will start at the end
of the month, in Cadiz, Spain. The task won’t be easy, for this
is not the easiest of courses; Francis Joyon explains the challenges.
